The Whitley County Public Library is proud to offer access to a growing collection of historic newspapers from our community and surrounding areas. For generations, local newspapers such as the Corbin Daily Tribune, Whitley Republican, and others have documented the daily life, important events, and unique history of Whitley County and southeastern Kentucky. These papers are more than news — they are a record of the people, places, and stories that shaped our region.
To help preserve this valuable history, the library has undertaken a project to digitally convert old newspapers into an accessible online archive. Many of these original newspapers are fragile, and over time the paper becomes difficult to handle and read. By scanning and converting these materials into digital files, we ensure that they are preserved for future generations while making them easier for today’s researchers, students, and community members to explore.
This ongoing effort allows patrons to browse past issues, search for names or topics, and discover local history in ways that were never possible with physical copies alone. Whether you are tracing your family genealogy, researching school or church history, or simply curious about how life looked in Whitley County decades ago, the digital newspaper archive provides a window into the past. The Whitley County Public Library remains committed to preserving these stories and making them available to everyone who values the history of our community.
